Why you should celebrate National Radiator Day

You might find it hard to believe but National Radiator Day is almost upon us! Yes, the last year has passed so quickly. Forget Bonfire Night for a moment. Before we start letting off fireworks, we need to celebrate our amazing radiators first. November 1st is National Radiator Day. Whilst we love our radiators all year round, this is the one special day when we can show some love for the wonderful appliances that keep us warm through the cold winter months.

Most of us have normally turned the central heating at least once by this date. As we flick the switch to fire up the central heating system and settle down for a toasty evening of Netflix, we probably don’t spend much time thinking about those metal appliances stuck to the walls. Well, until one of them goes wrong anyway!

Perhaps if we paid them a little more attention, they might not break down in the first place, which normally occurs when we need them the most. So, for this year’s National Radiator Day, we should all vow to keep them clean and keep them well-maintained, so they last us many more winters to come.

The campaign was started by the Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors. #LoveYourRadiator asked for ordinary people to take selfies with their radiators and share them on social media.

According to the organisation, there are a whopping 190 million radiators chugging away tirelessly in households around the UK every day. So, as the country’s favourite method of heating, why shouldn’t they have their own day to celebrate? The last 4 decades have been a bit of a whirlwind for radiators, going through many transformations to become an integral part of contemporary 21st century living. From purely functional and somewhat clunky to chic, stylish show-stoppers, radiators now don’t have to have furniture and décor fitted ‘around’ them but can be part of the décor themselves.

The last few years has seen an explosion in styles, shapes, colours and sizes. You can have horizontal, vertical, tall, twisty and just about any design you can think of.

While they are still only pieces of aluminium, iron or steel, they adorn the walls of almost every single home in the UK and remain the most popular and cost-effective way of heating your home. So, be proud of your radiator and share that love on National Radiator Day.
