The process of sculpting

Any bronze sculpture artist worth their salt will tell you that original sculptures, no matter the medium, require at least a small amount of skill. Even the best artist on earth has to start from the bottom and work their way up. When it comes to bronze sculpture, the same rule applies. You don’t start with a slab of cast bronze and simply stand back and plunk it down on a piece of wood or some other smooth surface. Just take a look at the work of Gill Parker and her Bronze Animal Sculpture to see the best process.

The sculpting process starts with finding an area in which the artist  will work, whether it is the garage to their house or a designated studio. They need to figure out what type of work needs to be done and get in the appropriate supplies for the job. Depending on what type of sculpture you want to create, there are different types of tools that an artist needs to work with.

Once they have all of the right tools and materials, they can start to sculpt. Each sculpting area that you go into will be unique, just like each person who creates art. This is why each artist has their own style and way of doing things. It’s important to remember that as long as they stay focused and don’t get distracted by your surroundings, then the artwork will speak volumes and be what you envisaged.
