Keeping Warm and Saving Money this Winter

Something that we don’t give much thought to in the summer is keeping our home warm. If anything, this summer we have seen record high temperatures and many of us are trying to keep our homes cool, so that we can enjoy a pleasant and comfortable night’s sleep.

However, with prices on the increase for gas and electricity, something that we should be giving some thought to are ways to stay warm this winter without spending a fortune. Here are some of the practical things that you can do to keep warm…

Insulate – Most modern homes are built with a good amount of insulation, but if you live in an older property, it is worth checking if you could do more to insulate it. There are government schemes that may be able to help you with this that are certainly worth looking into before winter arrives.

It is also worth checking your windows – if they are damaged, they could be letting cold into your home.

Check your Heating – The central heating is integral to our comfort in the winter, however, if yours is not working properly you could be spending a lot more on it than you need to. Check that radiators are heating up – if they are not fully heating, they may need bleeding. You should also get a professional like this Evesham boilers company to come and check your boiler to ensure that it is in good working order before we get into the colder part of the year.

Use Home Accessories – There are lots of things that you can use in the home that will help you to keep it warm. Curtains that are specially designed to trap heat in and cold out are a good choice for the winter, as heat can be lost through the windows. Something else that can help if you have hard flooring is using a rug to keep the room warm. Draught excluders, both for doors and for the letterbox will also stop that wintery air from getting in.

Close Doors – If you have rooms in the home that you are not using much, then close the doors to them. It is quicker and cheaper to heat the rooms that you are actually using, so this will save you money, as you won’t need the heating on for as long.
